Outdoor Sculpture Competition & Exhibition
   
Juror

The Juror for the competition is the distinguished Hank Foreman, Director and Chief Curator of the Turchin Center for the Visual Arts in Boone, NC.  During his tenure with the Turchin Center, Mr. Foreman has developed exhibitions, lectures, and symposia while overseeing the annual Rosen Outdoor Sculpture Competition and Exhibition.  Mr. Foreman obtained his MA degree in art education from Appalachian State University, having completed undergraduate studies at The University of North Carolina at Charlotte, with a concentration in painting and sculpture.

Mr. Foreman is an artist, art administrator, and educator. He currently serves as Director and Chief Curator of the Turchin Center for the Visual Arts at Appalachian State University in Boone, North Carolina. He began his affiliation with ASU in August 1993, and has taught in both the Department of Art and Watauga College /Inter-disciplinary Studies programs. Mr. Foreman received his B.C.A. in Painting and Sculpture from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and his M.A. in Art Education from Appalachian State University.

His professional activities include curating exhibitions, serving as juror for competitions, lecturing, teaching workshops, consulting on public art projects, and creating his own studio work. Exhibition programs in which Foreman has been a participant have also included works by artists Richard Anuszkiewicz, Jose Bedia, Jackie Brookner, Maryrose Carroll, Keith Carter, Elliott Daingerfield, Audrey Flack, Suzi Gablik, Keith Haring, Jenny Holzer, Richard Hunt, Jeff Koons, Lucy Lippard, Dominique Mazeaud, Jesus Moroles, Daido Moriyama, John Perreault, Man Ray, Joyce Scott, James Surls, and Mierle Laderman Ukeles, to name a few.

The artist’s studio work focuses on the concepts of cultural construction, ecology, spirituality and often combines non-traditional and traditional materials. In addition to regional exhibitions, Foreman’s work was recently exhibited at the acclaimed Apexart in New York City.

Mr. Foreman has lectured for numerous organizations including the National Art Education Association (NAEA) and the International Sculpture Center.
